Curriculum Overview
At St Aldhelm's Academy, we recognise that everyone is different—we all have unique interests and strengths. If the Academy is at the heart of its community, then the curriculum is at the heart of the Academy. By getting the curriculum right, providing outstanding teaching and learning, and shaping pastoral support around the needs of our students, success follows naturally.
Key Stage 3
At KS3, our curriculum is built on traditional, rigorous academic study, forming the cornerstone of our students’ learning experience. All students study English, Maths, Science, and Physical Education. Alongside these core subjects, we offer a broad range of additional subjects that inspire and engage our students. These include Art, Religious Studies, Music, Dance, Drama, Geography, History, Spanish, and Technology, which encompasses Catering, Engineering, Design Technology, Graphics, STEM, and Computing. This diverse curriculum allows students to explore their interests and develop a wide skill set.
Key Stage 4
At KS4, choice becomes a fundamental principle. We are proud to offer a blend of academic and vocational courses, enabling our students to follow their passions and align their learning with their career aspirations. All students continue with core subjects—English, Maths, Science, and PE—while selecting from a variety of options, including traditional academic GCSEs and practical courses like Hair & Beauty, Business, Computing, Design and Technology, Sport, and Childcare. This flexible curriculum ensures students are well-prepared for the next steps in their education or career.
