St Adhelm's Academy

Spanish

“To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world”

Chinese proverb

Introduction

At St Aldhelm's Academy, we believe that learning a foreign language opens a window to new cultures and perspectives. A high-quality language education fosters curiosity and deepens students' understanding of the world. By learning Spanish, students develop the ability to express ideas, thoughts, and emotions in another language, both verbally and in writing. They gain the skills to communicate for practical purposes, explore new ways of thinking, and even engage with literature in its original form. Language learning at St Aldhelm's provides a strong foundation for further study, equipping pupils with the tools needed for success in global contexts, whether for travel, study, or work.

Key Stage 3

In Key Stage 3 (KS3), Spanish lessons focus on building a solid foundation in the four key skill areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Lessons are designed to develop students' grammatical knowledge, vocabulary, phonics, and communication strategies. The focus shifts to developing exam techniques and strategies for success in GCSE Spanish, while students deepen their competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
