St Adhelm's Academy

Computing

At St Aldhelm's Academy, our Key Stage 3 Computing curriculum is designed to equip students with essential digital skills, ensuring they are confident, competent, and creative users of technology. Our approach is rooted in the Key Stage 3 Computing National Curriculum, which emphasises computer science, information technology, and digital literacy.

Integrated Learning Across Core Subjects
Computing is embedded across the curriculum, with students receiving one hour per week of computing-focused learning within their English, Maths, and Science lessons. This cross-curricular approach allows students to apply IT skills in real-world contexts, enhancing their understanding of each subject while developing key computing competencies. Students engage in activities such as data analysis, digital presentations, research projects, and the use of educational software to support their learning.

Enhanced Learning Through Technology Rotations
In addition to integrated computing lessons, students further develop their digital skills during the Technology rotations. Here, they have the opportunity to explore advanced computing concepts, including:

  • 2D and 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design): Developing design and engineering skills through industry-standard software.
  • Programming: Learning the fundamentals of coding, problem-solving, and algorithmic thinking.
  • Circuit Simulation: Modelling and creating circuit designs to solve real world problems.
  • Photoshop: Enhancing creative skills through image editing, graphic design, and digital art projects.

This comprehensive approach ensures that students not only meet but exceed the expectations of the national curriculum, preparing them for future academic success and the demands of the digital world.
